Theatre for a New Audience Polonsky Shakespeare Center

Brooklyn, New York

Client: Theatre for a New Audience
Architect: H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture
Completion: 2013
LEED Gold®

The Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA) is a modern day laboratory for the interpretation of classical theatre. It is the first theatre in New York City, built specifically for Shakespeare and serious drama since Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont in the 1960s.

FMS with H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture created an environmentally responsible building incorporating sustainable design methods utilizing the latest energy efficient systems. Our aim was to highlight the architecture, while reducing energy use overall.

The result is a beautiful addition to the burgeoning Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District. TFANA‘s exterior skin appears as a seamless, opaque surface contrasting with the façade’s glass curtain wall, a glowing street-side beacon in the evening hours.
