Canary Wharf

London, England

Client: Canary Wharf Consortium
Architect: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill
Completion: 1991

FMS designed the complete site landscape and roadway lighting system including a unique underground roundabout, five car parks, and a Docklands Light Railway station. We also developed lighting standards for the lobbies and arcades throughout the ten office buildings as well as detailed design for two of the towers.

The project required more than 100 different custom lighting fittings in several ornamental families that were fabricated by British manufacturers in Birmingham and London. Street light luminaires were developed with state of the art optics in historic enclosures.

The first tenants moved into Canary Wharf in August 1991. Currently, over 99% of the existing space is leased with 23,000 people working in the approximately 4.5 million net square feet of office and retail space.
