Fundação Armando Alvarez Penteado Campus Master Plan

São Paulo, Brazil

Client: Fundação Armando Alvarez Penteado
Architect: Ricardo Juliao Arquitetura e Urbanismo
Completion: 2004

FAAP is among Brazil’s elite private universities, founded in the early 20th Century. The Campus is in a densely populated neighborhood of São Paulo and consists of buildings dating from the 1920s into the 1970s.

FMS sought to unify the various building styles through the consistent use of exterior lighting standards and campus-wide strategies. The exterior walkways and plazas became friendlier and more intimate by eliminating the harsh, high-pressure sodium fixtures in favor of state of the art sources and shielded luminaires. Dedicated lighting was provided for art pieces, and architectural features were highlighted.

The project was designed and implemented in a fast track, six month period and the new campus lighting was unveiled to coincide with an exhibit on international lighting
