Independence Pass Residence

Aspen, Colorado

Architect: Bohlin Cywinski Jackson
Landscape Architect: Bluegreen
Interior Design: Shelton, Mindel & Associates
Completion: 2014
LEED Gold®

The Independence Pass Residence is located at the edge of a nature preserve in Aspen, Colorado with views of an alpine meadow, forests of evergreen and aspen trees, the Roaring Fork river and the Rocky Mountains.

This project is a seamless integration of lighting and architectural concepts, where each element maintains the rational order of the larger ideal. The architect chose an interior palette of stone and natural wood to highlight the open air feeling of the living, dinning and kitchen spaces. Energy efficient lighting is mounted above revels in the plank ceiling. When viewed from the long views of the great room concept, the lighting fixtures are invisible in the day, while during the evening, soft luminance fills the spaces, forming a warm and inviting home feeling.
