Indianapolis Bridges St. Clair Street Bridge

Indianapolis, Indiana

Client: City of Indianapolis / Sallie Mae Corporation
Architect: Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf
Sound Designer: Charlie Morrow Productions
Completion: 2007

FMS collaborated on an interpretive master plan for nine bridges along the Indianapolis Canal. St. Clair Street Bridge was selected to be the pilot project.

The principal idea behind the lighting design for the St. Clair Street Bridge is the illumination of the bridge deck’s underside by floodlighting from below and creating changes in color and intensity, synchronized with a 3-dimensional sound program. The solid state light fixtures (LEDs) are capable of generating millions of colors in unison or individually and produce subtle or noticeable color changes, sweeps, chases or flashing, to suit the overall program.
