John F. Kennedy International Airport JetBlue Airways Terminal 5 – Marketplace

Queens, New York

Client: JetBlue Airways
Architect: Gensler
Design Concept: Rockwell Group
Completion: 2008

The Marketplace is located in the center of JetBlue’s Terminal 5 in the JFK International Airport. Arriving and departing passengers can mingle with entertainment from the large color-changing ring hovering above. Surrounding the ring, a field of suspended downlights creates an additional visual layer within the coffer and gives scale to the large gathering space.

The triangular space directs travelers to and from their gates. Arriving passengers are greeted to the marketplace by back lighted blue panels, symbolic to JetBlue’s brand identity.

A platform allows people to gather and dine away from the moving travelers while the sitting steps provide a relaxed and casual atmosphere.
