Pittsburgh International Airport has been updated to meet the needs of the 21st century. Reopening in late 2025, the new terminal’s design has the capacity to meet the projected growth forecasts of passenger traffic and routes, accommodating between 12-18 million passengers each year.

The airport design philosophy combines nature, technology, and community as a nod to Pittsburgh’s location, its residents, and its commitment to innovation.

The crowning piece of the new terminal design is its grand undulating roof, which was inspired by the region’s rolling hills and rivers, and is subtly highlighted from concealed uplights within the tree-shaped columns, and further accented by constellations of fiber optic stars. Visitors will also be able to commune with nature by stepping outside into four separate landscaped courtyards, with soothing subtle illumination in harmony with the calm, stress-relieving environment.

The resulting combination of architecture and lighting is a more modern, adaptable facility that truly reflects Pittsburgh and belongs to the local area.
