The Peninsula Hong Kong

Hong Kong, China

Client: The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels
Interior Designer: The Gettys Group
Lighting Design: In Association with Double Vision
Completion: 2013

To help celebrate their 85th anniversary, The Peninsula Hong Kong, one of Asia’s most iconic destination properties, unveiled a $60 million (HKD 450 million) renovation to the hotel’s 300 guestrooms and suites. Together with Gettys and the client, FMS helped to remaster the lighting, creating an all-new in-room experience for sojourners.

The two-phase enhancement program began with the hotel’s 30-story tower, which adjoins 132 rooms and suites to the original building, and culminated in April 2013 with the transformation of the remaining rooms occupying the podium. In response to the client’s vision, we designed a sophisticated and integrated lighting system that, once combined with Peninsula’s proprietary control system, could be adjusted by the end-user through touch screen tablets. Low-profile downlights highlight the artwork and bring life to the fine architectural materials, while custom selected decorative fixtures provide the room with ambient light.

To help foster our vision and allow for the ability to have “on call” service in Hong Kong, we teamed with the Hong Kong based lighting design firm DoubleVision as the local collaborator, who coordinated with the local Architect to implement the design solutions proposed by FMS.
