The Spiral

New York, New York

Client: Tishman Speyer
Design Architect: BIG
Executive Architect: Adamson Associates Architects
Completion: 2023
LEED Gold®

Located adjacent to the elevated High Line Park and newly developed Hudson Boulevard Park in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards, the building sets a new standard for the contemporary workplace, where nature becomes an integrated part of the work environment. At just over 1,000 feet, the Spiral extends the green space of its surround with individually planted terraces ensuring that every tower floor opens outdoors, creating hanging gardens and cascading atria that connect the open floor plates from the ground to the summit into a single uninterrupted workspace.

Echoing New York City’s classic stepped setback skyscrapers, the form of the Spiral is illuminated at night by a custom linear LED lighting system carefully detailed to be fully integrated within the curtain wall system. The design language extends into the art-filled, biophilic lobby, where the bespoke linear and accent lighting system highlights areas of interest, and a series of decorative glass pendants provide an innovative approach to horticultural lighting at the green walls.

Metal-clad elevator cores are outfitted with linear LED pendants at each portal, while each cab interiors features a cove and circular line of light. The ground floor lobby is bookended by  two reception areas, each desk, with its own custom lighting system, creating a bright and warm welcome for building visitors.
