A new world class repository of the impressive UC Davis art collection and host to temporary shows, the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art makes ingenious use of the surrounding central valley landscape and climate to create an environment that invites the outdoors and breaks free of the often rigid museum programs.

Bright yellow outdoor light columns and accent lights highlight the textured façade materials—aluminum, concrete, wood and white walls, and subtly reflect light off the signature 50,000 square-foot Grand Canopy, creating a rich tapestry of light and shadow. The design also takes into account the variations of light at different times of day and during changing seasons.

The gallery track lighting and linear lighting are tied to an intelligent dimming system capable of adaptive response to the galleries state of occupancy, conserving energy and guiding visitors through the exhibit sequencing. The all- LED lighting system and sophisticated controls reflect UC Davis’ commitment to sustainability.
