Cassie comes to FMS with a Masters in Lighting from the LRC at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a BA in Philosophy from Temple University. Growing up in Maryland, with a mom who is a video photographer, Cassie learned how to set a scene with light and how to use light sources that cannot be seen within the frame of the camera – only their effect. She has carried that sensibility throughout her life, in the spaces she’s occupied, using light sources seen and unseen to create atmosphere and dimensionality. It is simply part of her sensory vocabulary.

Cassie has a professional background in hospitality design, project management, and antique lighting restoration. She worked for many years in bars and restaurants and takes a lot of inspiration from the romance of nightlife and restaurant culture.

Almost 20 years ago, she found an old Olympus film point-and-shoot camera in her family junk drawer. Ever since, she has carried a film camera with her and loves to observe the way light shapes atmosphere through her photography. Portraiture constitutes a significant part of her photographic practice.

In her spare time, she enjoys restoring, rewiring and reselling antique light fixtures. She feels most herself when dancing. If good house music is playing you can find Cassie on the dance floor.
