Luke Southern
Senior Designer

Mr. Southern views lighting as a vital element, enhancing space and experience within an architectural project. He decided to pursue lighting to develop a greater understanding of how to shape spaces with light. He is inspired by the works of artists such as Olafur Eliasson, Dan Flavin, and James Turrell.
Luke has a Bachelor of Science in Building Sciences with a concentration in Architectural Technology and Design from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. During his time there he gained a thorough working knowledge of the building industry from design to construction. Before joining FMS, Luke interned at C.F. Møller Architects, in Aarhus, Denmark, conceptualizing, developing, and rendering facades in their competition department.
Luke’s interests include exploring the city, frequenting museums and galleries, and attending shows at local music venues. Some of his creative outlets include furniture design, photography, and digital collages. He also submits work quarterly to a zine curated and published by UDLI Editions, a small publishing press in Boone, NC.
