Carla Ross Allen
Senior Associate

Carla Ross Allen’s formal training in product design, with an MFA in 3-D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art, explored the merger of technology and objects. While this influenced the many products she created, the methodology and spatial thinking of product development serendipitously aligned with the practice of lighting design.
Following her graduate studies, Carla started her career at SOM, developing a line of office furniture that focused on new working typologies, including the nomadic workforce and shrinking desktop technology. Her work has been featured in design books and museum exhibitions.
Since joining FMS in 2003, Carla’s artistic and environmental sensibilities have found expression in her lighting design collaborations on museums, academic buildings, bespoke residences, and landscape projects, as well as FMS’s product development team. Carla’s critical eye and intuitive visual design sensitivity have been an asset in her career at FMS. She strategizes and leads outward-facing marketing and business development efforts, ranging from industry talks to curated events. Carla manages FMS’s marketing team, focusing on brand identity.
